Love Spells and Ritual,

The Music of Elaine Silver and a Mirror into the Old Religion

Elaine joined us this Valentine's Season for this Ritual at the UU Church of Fort Lauderdale on February 16, 2002.

Just as there are books from which we learn, there are tapes and CDs containing lessons, stories, and insights into the Craft. When one speaks in song or story, the vows of secrecy are not so near.

Elaine drew from her CDs, Faerie Goddess, Divine Favorites, Lady of the Lake, and a new release scheduled for June, 2002. These tapes is available on Elaine's website where you can also listen to selected sound clips.

Elaine is truly into faeries. Her references are to earth symbols and non-specific pantheons of goddesses. Earth below, sky above, are female and male symbols.

                Love Spells & Ritual - 2/16/02

Set up an altar beside Elaine with one Goddess candle in the center, tea candles
and a red candle at each side.

Four quarter candles encircle the room.

HP introduces Faerie Elaine and the Ritual: Sit back, relax, enter a time for magick.
It's time to remember the old ways.

#1: Tis Time to Remember the Old Ways:

Envision a Covenor walking through the mists in a valley towards the high ground
where the evening ritual will be held. She is eager to be with her friends gathering
in communion. HPS enters from the rear of the church carrying a candle. As the music
plays, she slowly moves down the aisle and joins HP at the altar.

#2: Divine Emotion:

And now we invite the quarters. We use earth symbols. As the directions are named,
we light each quarter candle: East, South, West, North. See the reference to the
North Star as a symbol for direction and guidance.

#3: Calling All Directions:

The Circle is cast by dancing. Stand with left hand up - right hand down. Receive
energy from the person on your left and pass it to the person on your right. Dance
dosile with a step befitting a waltz.

Each full moon has a name. June is the "Faerie Moon." The second full moon
in a zodiac sign is called a Blue Moon and occurs "one in thirteen."

#4: The Blue Moon Song/Faeries (June) Moon:

We draw down the Goddess to be in our presence. Here we show a reverence for creation.
As the song begins, we light the Goddess candle. She is now among us. Contemplate
the Goddess candle.

#5: I Can See Perfection:

(Here begins the magical workings.)
We light a pair of red candles for love magick

The Goddess offers a blessing to those present: maid, matron and crone; youth, warrior
and sage. We are so bold in our early years until our confidence is assaulted. The
Goddess assures us that we are always beloved and connected.

#6: How Could Anyone:

The Goddess don't make any trash. Remember that your body is a temple. Here we might
slide into raucous celebration. We are worthwhile.

#7: Don't You Know:

Legend has it that there were more peaceful times before invading tribes
came from the West bringing weapon of iron. This is a history lesson reminding
us of the shorter people who were here first. In remembrance, some pagans
include no iron in their altar tools, except the athame.

#8: In Days Gone By - The Age of the Faeries:

During the next song, our HPS will joyfully grind rose peddles and rosemary.
She will use mortar & pestle, dunk them in extra virgin olive oil, strain
them and then (a la Martha Stewart) pull out the completed scented love oil
for anointing.

Here is a song of handfasting. The theme is that lovers might be together through
successive incarnations.

#9: One True Love - A Wedding Song:

We call upon our ancestors to empower us. HPS and HP will anoint those who want
during this song with the magickal oil we have made.

#10: Grandmother Moon:

And now we shall raise some energy with a chant and a song.

Call on the Moon, when she is round,
Love with you it shall abound,
What you seek, it shall be found,
In sky and sea and solid ground.

#11: Call on the Moon:

For love, all we need is to make ourselves lovable, and then to make time enough
for love. We give you all a parting gift. We will pass out sprigs of the herb

#12: Time in a Bottle:

And now we close as we open our Circle:

#13: By the Earth - Opening the Circle:
Using a snuffer, extinguish first the Goddess candle and then the four quarters
starting with the north and moving widdershins.

The ritual is ended, go in peace. We thank "Faerie" Elaine Silver
for her wonderful music for our rite. Thank you, Elaine Silver. Go in peace!

Special Lyrics:

Time in a bottle by Jim Croce (C)

If I could save time in a bottle
the first thing that I'd like do
is to save everyday till eternity passes away
just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
if words could make wishes come true
I'd save everyday like a treasure and then
again, I would spend them with you

If I had a box just for wishes
and dreams that had never come true
the box would be empty except for the memory
of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
to do things you want to do
once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
that you're the one I want to go through time with.
